CEO paper wins multiple awards

The Collect Earth Online (CEO) team is pleased to share that the manuscript Collect Earth: An online tool for systematic reference data collection in land cover and use applications has won multiple prestigious awards.

This peer-reviewed manuscript introduced CEO to the world as a free and open source tool for land monitoring. The paper describes the underlying technology behind CEO and describes the tool as a robust, integrated approach for data collection in collaborative settings that meets key reference data collection requirements for practitioners.

🎇 Awards Presented

The two awards recognize the significant contribution made by CEO to the scientific advancement of the environmental monitoring fields.

The first Award recognizes papers published in Environmental Modelling & Software (EMS) in a given year (2019 in this case) that received the highest numbers of citations in the following three years (2019-2021 in this case).

The second Award recognizes papers published in EMS in a given year that received the highest numbers of downloads in the following three years including the year of publication (2019-2021 in this case).

EMS announced the winners in two blog posts, one for the most cited papers and another for the most downloaded papers.

🎉 The Impact of CEO

The 2019 publication of the manuscript announcing CEO presented a case study using CEO for reference data collection in Myanmar. Since that time, CEO has helped many different communities of practice.

A recent survey of CEO users from over 58 countries found that CEO has attracted a global community of users who rely on the platform to drive high-impact work monitoring deforestation and other types of land use change. Some of the ways CEO is being used include:
